From Novel Updates:
Qiao Anhao and Lu Jinnian had secretly longed for each other for thirteen years, and now that there’s a possibility for them to be together, even though the circumstances may be unconventional, neither one can refuse their inner desires any longer.
Hurled into a false marriage, Qiao Anhao treads carefully towards the cold and reclusive Lu Jinnian, but after years of near-missed opportunities and deep misunderstandings, how could their last shot at love possibly run smooth?
“Nation Husband” is a Korean term awarded to a man who is perfect in the eyes of the public – an ideal husband.
Wow, this novel is just frustrating to the highest point.
I’ve read until the 100th chapter and I think I’m done with this series. I’m so done. At least for now. Before you get your pitchforks ready, hear me out.
May contain spoilers so proceed with caution!
Story
Negative ( ̄︿ ̄)
Oh wow, I cannot, for the life of me, understand how she can just stand there and let him abuse her. What did she even love about him in the first place? Face? She has more love for him than her self-respect?
It was already a red flag when he strangled her at first. I thought it would be better. I convinced myself that it would be better.
But things kept on getting worse.
He didn’t just abuse her by strangulation, he raped her twice. As far as I remember, even if you are married, if he forces his way to his wife, that’s still non-consensual. That’s rape. And that’s the lowest of the low ML could get.
And no. No one can convince me otherwise that saving her in the shadows is his way of loving. He had given her so much psychological shadow — physically, mentally, and emotionally. He destroyed whatever self-esteem she had.
Too much filler, too much exposition, too much drama
Each chapter is short but each mini-arc extends to 10 chapters. Each filled with too much unnecessary exposition. So just the first event where the characters are introduced runs to the first 10 chapters of the novel. (I heard you’d have to get past 500 or so chapters of angst just to get on the better parts.)
While the angst at the start got me, promised me of a (shaky) but an intriguing start, it soon got me really emotionally exhausted. Imagine reading 10 whole chapters of angst and be frustrated with the characters all throughout. There are no lighter scenes in between these mini-arcs to give readers a much-needed break. (Think of an action film with nothing but car chasing and brawling for the entire 2-hour run.)
There’s just… angst and dog blood drama. Dramas are good as long as not used in excess.
I might dare compare the drama with Heaven Official Blessing’s drama because they both have the most number of heartaches that I’ve recently encountered. Knives all over TGCF.
But even in HOB, there are down times after some heavy expositions. For example, after the events in Banyue Pass, we get downtimes with the gods’ assembly and Xie Lian going to the Ghost City for the first time. All those light-hearted scenes happened before and after a major event. But not here. Just misunderstandings, assaults, and pain all around.

Guuurl. Love yourself more. You deserve someone better.
Enjoyment (✯◡✯)
It was nice at first then I’m exhausted then I got bored to tears. I really think that for now, it would be a lot better for me to put this on-hold seeing as I did not enjoy the first 100 chapters.
IF by some stroke of luck and I change my mind, I would update this post. But that’s a big if. 😅
✭ Highlights ✭
So you probably think that I don’t have any favorite scenes considering all the negative things that I’ve mentioned above. I do have one fave scene though. 😏
There was this part where another female character planned to ruin her acting part. What Qiao Anhao did was she faced the female character and actually threaten her. Wow gurl.
(P.S. I wrote this post knowing all the circumstances around their marriage. Telling you this just in case someone points out about it.)
